ShakeOut earthquake drill
Thursday, October 17, 2013 - 10:00am - 10:30pm
WSU Vancouver will participate in ShakeOut, the world’s largest earthquake drill at 10:17 a.m. Oct. 17. The drill will be broadcast over the WSU Vancouver phone system and will last about one minute.
During the drill you are asked to practice the internationally recognized “Drop, Cover and Hold On” protocol:
• DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you)
• Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table
• HOLD ON to it until the shaking stops
Participation in ShakeOut is not required, but is encouraged. Participating is a good way to practice what to do in the event of an earthquake. It is especially important for Washington state residents to learn how to protect themselves from earthquakes, due to the high frequency of earthquakes and similar geological events in the region.
